Ok I'm now trying to round an average of three cells up/down to the nearest 0.5 I've tried:

=ROUND(AVERAGE(A11:C11),1)

how did I screw this formula up?

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Try...

=ROUND(AVERAGE(A11:C11)/0.5,0)*0.5

Hope this helps!

Try this:
=CEILING(A11:C11,0.5)

edit: it's not quite what you are looking for as it always rounds up

Hi gentleman9,

You will need to use the MROUND function, which is part of the Analysis ToolPak. The Analysis ToolPak can be found in the Tools -> Add-Ins... menu.

Then the formula is

Code:
=MROUND(AVEAGE(A11:C11),0.5)

Hope this helps!

PS -- You may have to install the Analysis ToolPak from Microsoft Office CDs.
