Running a macro on a monthly spreadsheet to update the next months spreadsheet

From reading the postings on this site, I see that I know nothing about excel macros. Several years ago we created a monthly spreadsheet used to post payments. A macro was created so that at the end of the month, I would save the spreadsheet and name it the next month. I would then run a macro called Monthreset that would move the end of month balances to the beginning of month and it would wipe out all payments posted for that previous month. All of a sudden, I cannot get the macro to run. I have both spreadsheets open but can't get the macro to work.
