Evening everybody,

I have a spreadsheet which needs to show running totals.

Column A contains workman (sorted), column B contains hours worked and column C will show the running total.

What I am doing currently is, starting at the top (there's a header row), entering into c2

=sum(b$2:b2) and dragging it down

Problem is, the workmen in column A keep changing and so I then have to go into column c and change the formula.

Is there a quick way to do this?

Excel Facts

Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"

what do you mean the workmen keep changing? Why does that matter with the sum formula?

Sorry, I didn't explain myself properly.

In column D there is week ending and all this data pulls through into a report.

So someone can run a report for week ending 4th March and it will tell them hours worked by workman along with their running total (or year-to-date total if that makes more sense).
