Hi There

I wonder if someone out there can help. I have 10 rows of sales figures. Some days there were no sales. I want to find the margin but I need the formula to only work the margin out on the rows that have sales greater than zero.

Thanks so much for a fantastic site!!

Excel Facts

How to create a cell-sized chart?
Tiny charts, called Sparklines, were added to Excel 2010. Look for Sparklines on the Insert tab.
suppose your sals figures start from A2 in B2 tpe
=IF(A2="","",A2*15%)

copy B2 down.

my margine is sales *15%
when A coumn cells have data you get margin in corresponding B column
if A column cells are blank the corresponding cell in B also be blank

sales margins

HI There

Thanks so much for the quick response. We want to find out what the margin is.

Say I have the following

eg:

Day Sales
Mon 5
Tue 10
Wed 10
Thur 0
Frid 0
Sat 5
Sun 5

I want to know what is the sales margin for the week but I do not want to include those days where there was no sales in my margin?

Regards

Natalie

How would you calculate (manually) the sales margin for the week shown in your sample data?

For what?

If you can tell us what you mean by 'calculate the margin for the week', then I am sure we can tell you how to do it and leave out the days with no sales.

sales margin

I was asking this question on behalf of a co worker and when you asked you question it seemed to jolt back to reality for her. She was actually looking to work out the average sales and not the sales margin

Thanks again

So, to get the average excluding days with 0 sales, one way is:
=SUM(B2:B8)/COUNTIF(B2:B8,">0")
Mr Excel.xls
ABCD
1DaySales
2Mon5
3Tue10
4Wed10
5Thur0
6Frid0
7Sat5
8Sun5
9Average7
Average
