Hello,
I want to create a scatter chart using an Excel table that contains milions euro, years (2000-2008) and the 27 countries from EU. I thought about a scatter chart (my finance teacher recomended that) butI have a problem with my values. On the chart we can see countries with large values and their evolution, but the other countries with small and almost the same values are all in the same place. Can I make a better scatter chart? If not, could you recommend another type of chart for my data?

Here is my table and chart

thanks and sorry for my english :D

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
What you could try is to format the Y-axis and set it to logarithmic. That will spread the lower region better. Of course then the reader will need to understand this scale.

Only a weak alternative: plot a second chart for "smaller scale" economies. A secondary axis on the same chart for the small economies would be a confusing mess.

thank you very much for your assistance
I tried the logarithmic scale, base 10, but I have the same problem...

maybe because many countries have similar values and that is why my chart looks like that..

I thought about that, but in my assignment I really have to use one chart. If I can't find another way, I will create 2 charts.

Thank you!

You may want to create a "break" in the y axis. See
http://www.tushar-mehta.com/excel/newsgroups/broken_y_axis/tutorial/index.html

Jon Peltier and/or Andy Pope have a similar tutorial on their respective web sites: www.peltiertech.com and www.andypope.info
