Hi
I have 2 sets of data and a data label e.g.

gla 1,5
for 2,9
bem 3,4

and I need to plot on a scatter. I can only get it to plot both data points, rather than just one where the numbers intersect. I am using excel 2010.
Would really appreciate your help!
Many thanks
Marian

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
I can only get it to plot both data points, rather than just one where the numbers intersect.

I don't know what that means.

Put your data into three columns (labels, then X, then Y). Select the two columns with X and Y, and insert a scatter chart from the Insert tab of the ribbon. This will give you a chart with three points.

I get a graph which plots the two points separately - i.e one for 3 and one for 7. What I would like is one point which is where 3 and 7 intersect.

Sorry for not explaining very well

Okay, I've searched your entire data set, and I don't see 7 anywhere.

How is your data arranged in the sheet, and how did you create the chart?

data is arranged like this but in separate cells. So for GLA, I need one marker where 1 and 5 intersect. What I get is a mark at 1 and a second mark at 5

gla 1 5
for 2 9
bem 3 4

Thanks for your time

Oh, you said intersect, and I was thinking there were intersecting lines on the chart.

Okay, go back to my first reply. Select the two columns of numbers (not the labels) and create an XY chart. This will give you three data points.

If you want to label the points, you could add datalabels to the series, then manually edit them to read gla, for, and bem. I don't know about you, but these three labels would be about all I could bear to do manually. Fortunately, Rob Bovey (http://appspro.com) has made a free Chart Labeler add-in that will do this for you.
