Scope of variable

If I declare a variable at the top of a standard module, such as:

Dim abc As Long

I can use it within that module.

However, if I declared abc within a worksheet, userform or class module, I can still use it but this does not work:

Me.abc = 10

Instead I must drop the Me.

Why is it that it "does recognise" abc, yet does not allow Me (unless abc was declared Public)?

If you use Me.abc you are accessing it as a public member of the class, which it is not (unless you declared it Public).
