Hi,

I am trying to search for a specific word, in this case the month of "may" in cell K6 (the cell date shows as 21-may-21). If "May" is found, I then want to return the value of the number in cell E6.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Pivot Table Drill Down
Double-click any number in a pivot table to create a new report showing all detail rows that make up that number
Place this formula in the cell where you want to return the number from E6: =IF(MONTH(K6)=5,E6,"")

Does it need to be this year?

How about
Excel Formula:
=IF(TEXT(K6,"myy")="521",E6,"")

In this case it would need to be 2021

thanks
Great thanks. And hopefully one more. Just complicating it a little more, formula as above, but I'd like to search a range of cells (eg K6:k50 for the month of May) and return any figure as previous from the range of E6:E50 if May is found. Therefore if in K6 and K12 and K20 "may" is found, then the figure in E6, K12 and K20 are returned and added together and so on. Hope that makes sense!

As that is a totally different question, you will need to start a new thread.

Also I suggest that you update your Account details (click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Oh, is it? It's all part of the same formula I'm trying to do? Yep, I'll update my details, thx

Thanks for updating your profile.
Adding values in a range of cells has nothing to do with your original request.
