Search WorkBook

I am looking for a method that I can search an entire workbook. I simply have several tabs (spreadsheets) and need to be able to search the entire workbook to find the spreadsheet that contains the information that I am looking for. Thanks in advance for any assistance.

the pretty simple manual way to do this is:

1. Right click on a tab.
2. Choose "Select All Sheets"
3. Hit CTRL+F
4. Type the info you're searching for in the dialogue box
5. It will search the whole workbook for your information.

You're lucky to have been able to post at all. The message board is slightly screwed up right now.

I've done what Mark O'Brien recommended many times and it usually works. But if the text you are searching for exists in multiple sheets, it will only find the 1st sheet with that occurance. When you search again, it won't locate the data in the other sheets. However, I'm still working with Excel 97, so with newer versions, this may not be a problem. I'm curious to see if anyone has noticed the difference.

It finds all instances in Excel 2000 of my test data, which is spread out over 3 sheets. It may have been an issue with Excel 97 as you've pointed out.

I am currently working with Excel 2000 and my sidekick in the office with me is using Excel 2002 - both of us are relieved that it finds items and continues to search throughout the "tabs" for mutliple occurances of the word that we are searching for, so you are exactly correct, must be a version "issue".
