This is a really silly question, by comparison to others. However, Is it possible to protect a whole folder (i.e. with 1 password) rather than having to protect every file within it!!

Yes, am running Windows NT. How exactly would I do that?
There are currently a hundred or so people who can access; would like them just to have read-only access, and to require a password if changes are to be made!

If you are running these folders on a network drive then chances are that you will need to speak to the administrator about setting viewing priveleges. To check your own security level - highlight the folder you wish to password protect and right click, choose properties and then go to permissions & security and tell us what you see or what message you get.

• First of all you will need to have the correct security level to be able to change the access. (if not your NT Admin)
  
  In Windows Explorer select the folder, Right Click and select Properties,
  
  Next Click the Security tab
  
  Click The add button and select the people from the list who should have access then check the relevant access levels.
  
  In most companies IT departments put people in groups ie Finance will contain all people in that department so you can add the group names check with your NT admin if this is the case.
  
• Regarding the last part part, if you want to have password access for any changes, this will require setting at the every file level as it is an application setting whereas the others are all Windows.
  
  However you can write a macro to password protect all files in a folder... I'll Start looking at this but in the meantime you have the first part.
  

Edit : Sorry Work has got in the way...Probably better to post a new message asking for how to do this...

Macro using the application.filesearch and then looping through each of the foundfiles object
