Select range, but merge only first 5

Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).

I'll first say, Merged Cells and VBA Code mix together about as well as Oil and Water, and they should be avoided like the Plague. They cause more problems than they solve...
A very similar effect can be obtained with "Center Accross Selection", found in format - cells - Alignement - Text Alignment - Horizontal

But if you must, this should do it...

Assuming the user has row 11 selected before starting the macro..

Range("A" & Selection.Row & ":E" & Selection.Row).Merge
