separating date

so i have this cell with

=today()

the format is 04-02-11
i want to separate the numbers to three different cells, so that for example A3 will have 04, B4 will have 02, C4 will end up with 11

is that possible?

I think since 04-02-11 is actually just a mask for 40635 you may have to use

A3 =MONTH(A1)
B4 =DAY(A1)
C4 =YEAR(A1)

and then format to mm - dd - yy respectively
