Set a VBA reference to ADO/ADOX with code

Is there a way to do this using code instead of just going to Tool > References and clicking the appropriate boxes?

I imagine there is, but the code vocabulary escapes me.

You can use the AddFromFile method.

ThisWorkbook.VBProject.References.AddFromFile ("C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll")

Will this error if the reference is already enabled?

Yes so you either need to check if it has already been enabled or handle the error.
