I am looking to write code that automatically changes the color of a tab based on the color of a specified cell.

The cell color is not static and is set based upon the number of the previous month.

I understand the below code won't execute but it explains what I'm looking to do as simply as possible:

ActiveWorkbook.Sheets(CStr(NewMonthWSname)).Tab.Color = Range("C4").Interior.Color

Excel Facts

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.
maybe something like this
Code:
Sub test()
Dim NewMonthWSname As String
NewMonthWSname = "Sheet2"
If Evaluate("ISREF('" & NewMonthWSname & "'!A1)") Then
    Sheets(NewMonthWSname).Tab.Color = Sheets("Sheet1").Range("C4").Interior.Color
Else
    MsgBox "There is no sheet " & NewMonthWSname
End If
End Sub
