hi

this question seems pretty easy, but I just can't find a way to do it - I must be missing out something:
In word, when inserting an image, you can format the pic's layout to go "behind text", so it looks like a background.

how do you do that in Excel?

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
This would be for onscreen only, but you can insert a picture under
format sheet background.

When you insert a sheet background, it is automatically tiled (repeated) and covers the entire sheet, from A1 to IV65536. The size of each tile is most likely determined by the size in pixels (pixel width x pixel height) of the particular image. You can lighten the image (before insertion) by manipulating its visibility in an image editing program, such as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, but I don't see anything in Excel (I'm working with Excel 2000) that would either dis-allow tiling or allow placement of the image in a particular cell or a range of cells.
