# Setting Logarithmic Base Scale in Excel 2010

Hello All and a Happy New Year to you, I am trying to recreate a graph with a logarithmic y axis from a handbook in excel. The y Axis (viscosity) is logarithmic from 0.4 to 50.00 and the x axis (Temperature) if normal -50 to 170. Data taken from the graph I am trying to plot a straight line with the following data (below).
When I try to create a XY scatter with the data I cannot recreate a true logarithmic scale on the y axis, if I use a base scale of 2 it simply doubles the y axis and at the same time will not allow me to change the major or minor units?
The y axis graph in the handbook starts at 0.4 and increases to 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9, 1.0, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 15, 20, 30, 40, 50.
 Temperature Viscosity 144 0.4 -20 4.3 -50 16

I appreciate any help as I do not have a lot of experience with using log scales in excel.
Many thanks Steve

### Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).

Sorry I also wanted to add that on the x axis which is between -50 and +150 degrees C I would also like to turn this axis into a logarithmic scale but I believe excel will not let you create a log scale negative numbers?
