I am wanting to build an Excel front end that will retrieve and create records in an Access Db all placed on a SharePoint site.

I tried this a few years ago and according to Microsoft, this kind of set up wouldn't work.

Is this still an issue now or is this now possible?

TIA

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
The data in the Db needs to be accessible by multiple people at the same time where the Excel front end is opened as read only.

I understood PQ to be file based data rather than held outside the file.

How can data in a file be appended to by more than one user if one of those users has the file open as read-only?

I took your statement 'Excel front end is opened as read only.' to mean that you simply want to create a report based on the Access DB. If you actually need to either edit or create new records that is a different thing entirely - you might be able to use PQ etc for that, but it would need VBA and be very complicated (in my opinion).

Sorry, not sure I can help further.
