732 =7
745 = 7
702 = 7
855 = 8
945 = 9
1020 = 10

I want to drop the last 2 numbers.

If you want a formula try this.

=LEFT(A1, LEN(A1)-2)

I'm not sure what exactly is the difference between my ending value coming from a formula or by being numeric?

left(), being a text function, returns a text data item. this is going to choke some of the maths functions (e.g. sum() ). +0 coerces back to a number.

in general, better to find a mathematical route to the transformation if you can...
