=IF($AU10="*:*",$D10,"")

Column AU may contain text like AA:AB or STU:BR1

I was hoping my formula would recognise if a cell had a colon in it, but it isn't!

What am I doing wrong?

TIA

Excel Facts

What does custom number format of ;;; mean?
Three semi-colons will hide the value in the cell. Although most people use white font instead.
If you're just wanting to test whether or not the cell contains a colon, this would work:

Code:
=IF(ISERROR(SEARCH(":",$AU10,1)),"",$D10)
Hope this helps,

Chris.
