# Simple IF not working

=IF(\$AU10="*:*",\$D10,"")

Column AU may contain text like AA:AB or STU:BR1

I was hoping my formula would recognise if a cell had a colon in it, but it isn't!

What am I doing wrong?

TIA

### Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
=if(countif(\$au10,"*:*")>0,\$d10,"")

If you're just wanting to test whether or not the cell contains a colon, this would work:

Code:
=IF(ISERROR(SEARCH(":",\$AU10,1)),"",\$D10)
Hope this helps,

Chris.

Thanks Zebra and Chris

Yw.
