I have a simple spread sheet. I have a value in A3 that equals 6, the valee of cell A1 equals 2, i want cell A2 to figure what it needs to add to equal the set value in A3 of 6 by adding or not whatever is needed to equal the constant A3? I'm sure this is a simple one but please help........ Thanks

Excel Facts

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
Not sure what you want in A2.
Wouldn't it be "=A3-A1" in A2? or 4?

A3 is always going to equal 6 but A1 will vary I want A2 to tell me what to add to A1 to always equal A3.
A3=6
A1=4 then A2 should show up 2
A1=3 then A2 should show up 3
and so on,
thanks

Projected cases should = 0 but if cases on hand were 2 then Projected should = 2

I have another question with the same sheet. I want a cell to "format, show up red or whatever" if the adjacent cell has anything, any value entered. would this be another macro or is there something easy and stupid I'm missing? Thanks for your help

Use conditional formatting not a macro.

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 40pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=52><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 20pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 950" span=2 width=26><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 15.75pt" height=21><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 20pt; HEIGHT: 15.75pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl63 height=21 width=26>Pass</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #f0f0f0; BORDER-LEFT: #f0f0f0; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; WIDTH: 20pt; BORDER-TOP: #f0f0f0; BORDER-RIGHT: #f0f0f0" class=xl63 width=26>Fail</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 height=20> </TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64> </TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 15pt" height=20><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; HEIGHT: 15pt; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl65 height=20> </TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: windowtext 0.5pt solid; BORDER-LEFT: windowtext; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent; BORDER-TOP: windowtext; BORDER-RIGHT: windowtext 0.5pt solid" class=xl64> </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

All of the "pass" cells are automatically checked, I'd like the "pass" cell to uncheck if the the "fail" cell is checked..... Does that make sense? Thanks for any help you can offer....

Here is one for the first question if you do not want negatives.

=IF(A3-A1<0,0,(A3-A1))

About your last question, are you using check-boxes?

Actually someone else will be able to answer this one, sorry mate.
I would use a check box but I have Excel starter at present and it's very bare bones on features and I am unable to run any little tests.
