Hi,

The size of the excel file (.xlsx, 837kb, with 64k cells filled up with text note more than 25 in any cell) imported in MS access is having a size of database (2856kb),more than expected.

Please help me out in this, as i need to import 2.8Mn cells of this type in MS access database, which shall make it inconvenient to handle in this.

Thanks!

Excel Facts

Copy formula down without changing references
If you have =SUM(F2:F49) in F50; type Alt+' in F51 to copy =SUM(F2:F49) to F51, leaving the formula in edit mode. Change SUM to COUNT.

Did you set the fields in Access to 25 characters? or are they still at 255? Also, in the settings, you can "Compact on Close", too. ;)

What method are you using for the import into the database? As if like copy and paste the Table that is created automatically sets the Field Size for Text to 255 characters.

Have you looked at compacting the database once the data has been transfered!

Select the Office Button in the database and then Manage then Compact

Before posting, i tried for compacting the database also, but no results, the database remained of the same size.

I did not set any field to any limitation of characters, i just gave an example to have a view of the type of database.

Thanks!
