Solving algebra expression with letters

Hi!

How can I in an equation with two variable solve for x using letters in Excel?

E.g. I have the following problem:
y = -2*x+150

Find expression for x.

I know the answer is x = -0.5*y + 75 but can Excel find that out for me?

I'm new in here so I really hope you can help me.

Format A1, B1, D1, A2, B2 and D2 as Text and Custom Format E1 and E2 with this Type pattern...

+General;-General;+0

Put these values in the indicated cells...

A1: Y
B1: =
C1: -2
D1: X
E1: +150

A2: X
B2: =
C2: =1/C1
D2: Y
E2: =-E1/C1

You will enter the X coefficient in cell C1 and the y-intercept in E1 manually and the reversed equation will appear automatically on Row 2.

Excel doesn't do computer algebra, but there's lots of software that does.

Your solution is nice for the example posted but what happens if x has an exponent other than 1?

I did not indicate that I'm trying to solve anything more complex, but I would like to if possible. But it doesn't seem that it's possible. So I'm good for now. Once again thanks!!
