some excel files won't open on my mac

Hello,

I am new to this and was hoping I could get some help. I have Office:mac 2004 installed and when I try to open some excel email attachments they won't open. It looks like they are going to, but then there is nothing on the screen. I can see them (or part of them in "quick Look")
