Some way of combining and consoladating data

Hi,

I have a data that is in many seperate worksheets (150+) which i need to combine to make a database in one sheet (the seperate sheets are just from different dates samples were taken). What i wanted to ask the forum is the best way of doing this. The problem i have is through column and row headings are generally repeatitive they do vary from sheet to sheet. This is best explained from extract the data below (in reality there are many more rows and columns in each individual worksheet). The locations sampled, chemical tested etc may change on different dates, as some location were samples etc, or chemicals werent analysed

What im trying to avoid is copying and pasting all the sheets into one excel sheet, and spending days draging columns of contaminant data so they fit other data in the sheet (there are many columns of contaminants!)

Ultimately the ideal database would be similar to the layout as above, with:

Location Date Chem1 Chem2 Chem3....

then we could just filter for certain locations, and do statistics on that.

What I had originally plan to do was make a macro to put the whole thing into a list format, under the headings. e.g.

Then run the marco for each sheet and combine the list, then Pivot Table to consolodate the list, and turn it into a database. Im now realising this wont really work, mainly because Pivot Table only works with numbers (therefore i'd lose the below detect data - <0.01 entries).

I dont know if there are any better ways to do this (and you guys seem like the ones to ask!), or whether I should just give up the search, and start the long process of sticking it all in one spreadsheet 'by hand'

One approach could be to use a macro to arrange the data in the format you require. The following code was tested on your sample data. If it's in a sheet called 'sheet1' and there's a blank sheet called 'sheet2' in the book, the code will transfer the data to it, non numeric values and all. The code assumes the actual data begins in row 3, as it did when I pasted your example table.
