Sort using 2 header rows

My first row is a heading merged across columns. My second row contains headings for each column. Since it's a large spreadsheet it is inconvenient to select the data beginning at A2.

Is there a way I can designate two header rows and then sort?

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
I don't think so.

If the problem in starting in A2 is that selecting the data is a pain (it is easy go past the end), why not just hit CTRL-END to go the end of the data, the select the range back up to A2? It is a little less of a nuisance to go "backwards" like this.

Thanks. I hoping for another way. I guess I write to Micorsoft and ask them to add that feature to its next edition.

Hi,

Perhaps you could put your first-row-headings in cell-like textboxes.
Making row 1 higher there would be room for the headings of row 2 (which are now in row 1).

or
instead of merging you could use the "center accross selection" alignemt, but I don't think this would solve your problem

a good alternative could be a "double-click-sort" system
a doubleclick in any header in row 2 would trigger a sort: of course this would need some sheetevent-code

kind regards,
Erik
