I need to sort an entire workbook of data except 1 column and the header. I can easily not sort the header but I need to freeze that one column so that all the data sorts except that column. Is this possible?

Excel Facts

Does the VLOOKUP table have to be sorted?
No! when you are using an exact match, the VLOOKUP table can be in any order. Best-selling items at the top is actually the best.
Is the column at the edge of all of the data, either the first or last column or is it in the middle of your data?

If it is at the edge, highlight everything but that one column and sort away. If it is in the middle, I don't know how to handle this easily.

Yes the column is at the far left. The problem is that I need to make this for a group of people who are not Excel literate. So in doing that I was hoping there was a way I could freeze/lock that column that way they can not sort it but can sort the rest of the document, like the header row.

Could you add a blank column between the first column and the rest. Then they could sort by placing the mouse/cursor anywhere else and sort?

Alternatively, can you add a button for them to click to sort and have the code only sort the columns of interest?

Will they always sort by the same column? If so, record a macro doing the sorting this way. Then using the drawing toolbar, add a shape, probably a rectangle or an oval and assign the macro you recorded to it. This is the very basics to get you started.

If you can get this far, you can always post back with more specific questions to handle things like changing number of rows, allowing the sorting on various columns, etc.
