Hi,

Is it possible to sort some numbers some of which have text so that number comes first?

Example below:

Original List
1
3
4
2
5
6
2a
7
2b

would become

1
2
2a
2b
3
4
5
6
7

Currently if I sort smallest number to highest I get

1
2
3
4
5
6
7
2a
2b

Thanks,
Nic

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.

Hi Nic

If you convert all the values to text, sort will do it automatically.

Re: Sort numbers which contain text

You need to change it so all your entries are text, and not a mix of text and numbers.
This can be done pretty easily.

1. Highlight your column
2. Select "Text to Columns" from the Data menu
3. Go to Step 3 and select the "Text" radio button
4. Click "Finish"
5. Now sort this column

You are welcome.

I have merged your two threads together. Not sure why you posted it a second time when you already had an answer.

In the future, please do not post the same question multiple times. All clarifications, follow-ups, and bumps should be posted back to the original thread. Per forum rules, posts of a duplicate nature will be locked or deleted (rule #12 here: Forum Rules).
