sorting problem

In column C I have the result of the following ...

=A1/B1 or A2/B2 etc etc

some of the results result in a numeric answer, others result in error.

When I sort column C ( descending with no header row ) the numeric answers appear at the bottom of the column and the errors above those, filling all the spaces to the top.

Even if I change the formula to ...

=if(iserror(A1/B1,"",A1/B1)

it does the same thing.

If I sort column C ( descending with no header row ) it works fine, but I need it to sort ascending.

I haven't seen this problem before in anything I've done ??

Any clues ?

If you sort ascending error values and strings appear at the bottom. If you sort descending they appear at the top.

so is there no option in Tools Options that allows me to reverse that outcome ??

I have other options to sort these columns but each of these options is a fair degree of work and I'd prefer the easy path.
