sorting text and numbers

I would like something like FILE_1 through FILE_10 to be sorted in numerical order, not FILE_1 FILE_10 FILE_2 FILE_3.... etc.

is there a way to do this!? I tried the custom format but it doesn't accept what I put in

Once you've created a custom list, then select your data range and choose Data>Sort. Click on the options button and change the Normal type to your custom list. Click OK
