sorting w/ vba

I am trying to accomplish

    Sheets("Summary").Select
    Range("B8:F24").Select
    Selection.Sort Key1:=Range("E8"), Order1:=xlDescending, Header:=xlGuess, _
        OrderCustom:=1, MatchCase:=False, Orientation:=xlTopToBottom

with

    Sheets("Summary").Range("B8:F24").Sort Key1:=Range("E8"), Order1:=xlDescending, Header:=xlGuess, _
        OrderCustom:=1, MatchCase:=False, Orientation:=xlTopToBottom

but am getting the error sort reference not valid. Where am i making the mistake?

        OrderCustom:=1, MatchCase:=False, Orientation:=xlTopToBottom

Do you have some type of locked sheet, pivot table or something along those lines?
