Does anyone know if I can assign a certain row to be a header that I can sort below it and keep the header row the same? thanks

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
Clik the row below it (where the number is so the entire row highlights) go to window, freeze pane. Then the header row won't move.

Then click the row itself, and go to data, and click filter and auto filter

Either of these steps can by done by themselves

With regard to sorting, highlight your data and go to Data>Sort. Check the “Header Row” box at the bottom of the sort dialog to make Excel treat the first row as headings.

almost like setting the top two rows as like a default title so that when i click data>sort it automatically shows with the headings in the second row

Just highlight the range of data you want to sort. When you check the Header box, it will use the top row of your selection. Is that what you need/mean?

kinda, its just that there is a lot of data and highliting it all takes a while, and on another sheet in the same book, it just automatically sorts from the subtitles in the second row when i just go data>sort without having to highlight or select header, i am just trying to get the same result from the other. I don't know how it works on the other sheet but not this one

If you select one of the cells in the range to be sorted, when you click Sort, Excel will “guess” the range so I assume that this is what it is doing on your other sheet (and getting it correct by the sound of things).

There are faster ways of highlighting a range than dragging the mouse, e.g. Ctrl+Shift+arrow keys, which might make things faster.

Alternatively, if the range is always the same size, you could name the range and then type the name into the range box at the top left of your sheet.
