Hi,

I'm trying to extract some data from an old workbook which is locked (and the password is unknown and I cannot crack it).

I have managed to type in the location of data in the old workbook into a new workbook to extract it (=[OldSheetName.xls]OldSheetName!A1 and fill down), which works well, so I was feeling pretty pleased with myself. I then started to use Find and Replace for each sheet in the old workbook in fresh tabs in the new workbook.

This works great, except there's a space in the name of some of the Sheets in the old spreadsheet, and I get an error message when trying to use F&R to replace it (something about an internet location). Ditto with the sheet name which has an apostrophe in it.

Is there anything that can be done?

Thanks in advance!

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Welcome to the forum.

Spaces shouldn't be a problem since the formula should have apostrophes before the workbook name and after the sheet name. Are you sure you haven't got a sheet name wrong? For the sheets with apostrophes in it, double up the apostrophe.

I figured it out in the end - we use OneDrive so the filename was pointing to the online version which Excel didn't like. Once I forced the full filename to the local version it was happy.

Was still wrestling with the apostrophe though, so thanks for that tip - works now!
