does anybody know if this is possible in excel 2000, please. I have asked before but answers seem to relate to later versions.

application.speech.speak "A1" does not work nor does range ("A1").speak

Hi - From memory I think application.speech.speak wasn't introduced until Excel XP.

Can you try the following code to see if you can use the COM object instead?

Code:
Sub test()

    Dim s As Object
    Set s = CreateObject("SAPI.SpVoice")
    s.Speak "Hello World"
    Set s = Nothing

End Sub

Dean - yes I do hear hello world through my speakers. I am not good at VBA and cannot see how to convert the code to make it speak the contents of cell A1.
