Speeding up links from Excel to Word

Hi All:

Does anyone know how to speed up the link updates from Excel to Word.

I've built a model in Excel and want to link it (individual cells) to a Word document. I cut the desired cell from Excel, then Paste Special <Paste Link> <Formatted Text> RTF into Word.

When I initially open the Word file, I'm asked if I want to update. I say "Yes," but it seems awfully slow to update the desired links (in Word). I'm only in the beginning stages of this model, but don't want to waste my time if it's not going to work (nicely). Right now, I've only experimented with about 10 or so links and it takes about 10 seconds. I'm invisioning a couple of hundred links, but don't want it take five minutes for the links to update, as it would render the model virtually useless (by waiting so long). I've also got the Excel file open, in my theory that it might speed up the linking process. I'm not out of memory.

Any ideas if my plan will work, or any ways to speed up the update process?

I know it's like trying to make a dog talk to a cat, but since they're both made by the same company, seems like it should work better than clumsily.

Thanks in advance for any help or ideas.
