Split cell data

Hi all..

Looking at the attached table, is it possible to split column A into the respective 2 parts so that the outcome for each cell looks like Row 2 column B & C

I have a large pupil SS where I need to split the Class (Column A) into its respective Year and Reg (Column B & C)

is the letter always a single letter?
