Split date function

Hey,

I got following problem; I want to split a date which is in the following pattern dd/mm//yyyy. i need to seperate month and year, but i dont need the day anymore. i know i could use text to column, but that is not good enough; it must be a function. Hope u guys can help me out

=MONTH(A1)
...or...
=TEXT(A1,"mm")+0
... will return only the month.

=YEAR(A1)
...or...
=TEXT(A1,"yy")+0
... will return only the year.
