I have tried searching on allsorts of keywords but to no avail.

In column A I have a list of names in the format "FirstName LastName" separated by a space. What I would like to do is put the last name into column B automatically.

Excel Facts

Square and cube roots
The =SQRT(25) is a square root. For a cube root, use =125^(1/3). For a fourth root, use =625^(1/4).
Hi vertisol, try - select the column of data>Data>Text to Columns>Delimited>Check the Space box and the 2 names will be separated into separate columns - you will need a spare column to the right of your data

have a look at text to columns (data menu). it allows you to split a column of cells using delimiters such as spaces, commas etc. if there are spaces between firstname and lastname you can specify a space as the delimiter, then just reverse the position of the columns.
