Spreadsheet protection question

Trying to find the best solution for the current issue I have. I have an excel spreadsheet that I place on Sharepoint. I don't want people to download to their harddrive and manipulate the data. What is the best option to protect the data from being manipulated, but allow the end-user to search and filter the information as well.
 

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
I've had no luck trying to filter or sort in protected sheets.

You will need code that unprotects the sheet, performs the filter / sort, and protects it. How much work that involves, will depend on how much freedom your users will need (ie, which columns could be filtered).
