Best way to learn Power Query?
Read M is for (Data) Monkey book by Ken Puls and Miguel Escobar. It is the complete guide to Power Query.
It's a problem that occurs in some cases and I really don't know the cause yet - apparently something in the data tells Excel "this is text data" rather than "this is numeric data".

workarounds are

1) For formulas pasted in Find/Replace the equals sign
        Find: =
        Replace with: =

2) For numbers pasted in add zero
Copy a zero from any cell
Select the data you pasted in
        Paste Special | Add
