Whenever I press F2 in Excel, when trying to edit a cell with text, the current text changes to $y and the original text is gone. Therefore it is impossible to change text in a cell using F2 as a shortcut. Any suggestions or explanations. It is very puzzling to me. Thanks.

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
Try running this macro:

Code:
Sub resetKey()
    Application.OnKey "{F2}"
End Sub

  • Press Alt-F11 to open the VBE.
    Press Control-R to open the Project Explorer. (May be open already)
    Click "Microsoft Excel Objects" for the file you're working on (should expand the list of the ThisWorkbook module and any sheet modules.)

    Select Insert, Module from the drop down menus.

    Put your code in the right-hand window.
    Press Alt-Q to close the VBE and return to Excel.

That should reset the F2 key back to its original (Edit) state. Post back if you have any problems. Hope that helps!
