Strange Slow Downs in Excel Sheet

I have a spreadsheet that has approximately 930 rows and 18 columns on one sheet. For some reason, when it gets to about the 700TH row, it slows right down to a crawl when trying to scroll through the data; when I highlight cells to copy or past, it distorts the view, appearing to split cells, etc. There is only one column with a very simple (x*y) formula.

I cannot seem to find what would be causing this to happen - would anyone have any suggestions as to what to look for?
