Subtotal not showing fully on left

I am subtotaling a large amount of data and the subtotal function is not working as expected. I have checked the box in the advance setting as this is always set to "show outline symbols if outline is applied" but it calculates the subtotals, but then only sets 2 levels - all or the total - and not the mid level of all of the subtotals I need. I have played around with the outline function but this doesn't seem to make a difference. This has happened before, but sometimes it works perfectly!

Can anyone help?

Many thanks

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
I've removed a filter on one column - and now it works! Can anyone confirm whether this is the reason so I know for further? Many thanks
