I have a section of data that I have subtotaled. How do I take those subtotals and do an average?

I tried doing =subtotal(1,range) but it did not work

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
Try the following formula, which needs to be confirmed with CONTROL+SHIFT+ENTER...

=AVERAGE(IF(SUBTOTAL(3,OFFSET(A2:A10,ROW(A2:A10)-ROW(A2),0,1))=0,A2:A10))

Adjust the range, accordingly.
