Hi,

I have column A and B which contain hours and minutes in decimal. A1 = 15.9, B1 = 10.1.
How do I subtract these numbers and have the result appear in C1 in hours and minutes.
So what I need is C1 = 15 hrs 54mins - 10 hrs 6mins.

Thanks,

Gerry

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Wait,

Do you literally want to see the text string "15 hrs 54mins - 10 hrs 6mins" ?
Or do you want the result of that subtraction, 5.8 formatted as hours and minutes - 5:48 ?

Try just
=(A1-B1)/24

Format the cell with the formula as a time h:mm

Hi Jonmo,

I want the result formatted as hours and minutes and your formula does exactly that.
Many thanks for your help, it's greatly appreciated.
