subtracting data in one table from another

Hi,

This is basic stuff but I don't know it.

How do I vlookup the same word in table 1 and 2, and subtract the data from table 2 from table 1? The tables are on the same tab.

I can find the information from one vlookup table but I don't know how to write the formula to find the same word in table 2 and create a formula to subtract both datas.

Please help.

ok, If I understand you correctly, the tables have the same infomation but different values in the columns that you are looking up, so you would like to subtract them?

the first way I can think of is on the first table do the vlookup on from the second table and retrive the value for table 2. i.e. =VLOOKUP(your lookup name on table 1,Table2data,the column the value is located in table 2,false) then justs subtract the values from table 1, i.e.=VLOOKUP(your lookup name on table 1,Table2data,the column the value is located in table 2,false)-table1 values.
