Sum Adjacent Cells if Column Contains Text

Hi

I would like a formula that sums values in column AB if the adjacent cell in column AC contains the word "Dept". So, for example, if cells AC6, AC9 and AC33 contained the Dept the formula should sum AB6, AB9 and AC33.

Column AB may contain blank cells.

Can anyone help?

Look at the SUMIF function. Something like:

=SUMIF(AC:AC,"Dept.",AB:AB)

=SUMIF(AC:AC,"Dept",AB:AB)
