sum count for words?

Hi, I have a spreadsheet for work, and column b has a list of words. I have a "totals" row set up at the bottom, and need to have an automated count of how many words are on the list, but when I do a SUM COUNT, it doesn't work.. I'm assuming you can't use this function for words?
