This is probably very easy to a regular, but using Access I need to know how I can query the database to show my results grouped by month.

Obviously the data exists in a daily format. I need to know how I can query it where it shows me the monthly totals for each month through time...

Excel Facts

Using Function Arguments with nested formulas
If writing INDEX in Func. Arguments, type MATCH(. Use the mouse to click inside MATCH in the formula bar. Dialog switches to MATCH.
is your month a seperate field or combined with a date?

if it is seperate you just right-click the month field and set the sorting and grouping there and check the properties and make sure the grouping is set to keep together

I just have a 'date' column that is each individual day. I need to total the columns for each month, but it's in a daily format.

So in design view what type of data is specified? text? what happens when you change it to date/time? how do you tell 1 week from the next?

Heres an example of the format of data I have:

date value 1 value 2
1/1/08 15 98
1/2/08 17 74
1/3/08 26 63
1/4/08 23 85
1/5/08 78 25
1/6/08 05 31
... and so on...

I want to query results to look like this:

Date (month) value 1 sum value 2 sum
1/08 456 574
2/08 755 878
3/08 358 545
4/08 685 939
5/08 254 856
6/08 758 785
...and so on

you see, where the month is displayed and value 1 is the sum of the month, same with value 2.

A parameter query would be
between [Beginning date] and [End date]
on the cirtera line & the next column to sum value2
I'm trying to teach myself all this stuff too as I try to up grade from excel

That is correct, but that makes me executing a single query for every month from data that ranges from 2002 to present.

there has to be a way I can do a paramater query, but loop it until the end of data.
