Sum or Count cells with matching date value

Hi,

I would like to be able to count the number of times a date appears in a spreadsheet , dependant on a date that i prescribe.

eg.

Speadsheet 1

1
A:3/4/11
A:3/4/11

Speadsheet 2

Count if date in spreadsheet 1 corresponds with date in spreadsheet 2
1
A: 3/4/11
