Hi,
I've 2 columns, say A and B, up to 10 rows. A1, A2, A4, A7 to A10 got name, A3, A5, A6 blank cells. B1 to B10 all got figures. How can I sum up column B only for those Column A that has name on it.

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Your formula didn't work on my worksheet. My column A are paste as blank data from other worksheet.

It works for the 1st 2 columns A and B but when I copy and paste to the next column C and D, it didn't. Why?

Your formula works only if the first cell (in this case A1) has value in it. If you copy and paste to C and D column and if cell C1 is blank, your formula can't works.

I suggest that you
  • update your Account details (click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)
  • investigate XL2BB for providing sample data to make it easier for helpers by not having to manually type out sample data to test with or to guess what you actually have.
